Pfarrkirche Deutsch Brodersdorf
The Catholic parish church of Saints Philip and James stands at the western edge of Deutsch-Brodersdorf village, beside the Schloss Brodersdorf estate in the Seibersdorf municipality of Baden district. Its west-facing nave rises under a single pitched roof, while the east tower presents a symmetrical front with a stone doorway framed by volutes and segment-arched windows above. The two-stage tower cap carries a curved spire, and the lower, narrower choir ends in a flat three-sided closure. The church’s interior mixes Joseph II’s late-18th-century plan with late-19th-century Gothic Revival furnishings. The high altar, a neo-Gothic wall retable from the 1890s, carries a painted Crucifixion between smaller images of the patron saints and a Baroque icon of the Madonna of Częstochowa above. The pulpit, carved in the 1730s, displays Castilian arms, acanthus leaves and ironwork, while the organ by Franz Strommer dates from 1890. Two memorial stones under the west gallery recall the rebuilding after the 1683 Turkish raid and the parish’s foundation under Emperor Joseph II in 1783. Outside, the churchyard holds two 17th-century armorial slabs and a small 18th-century Madonna niche. The south sacristy, two storeys high under a low hipped roof, contains an oratory reached through a stone-arched door. The nave walls are lined with flat pilasters and plain ceilings, while the tower ground floor is vaulted in a pattern of intersecting lunettes.
