Wiener Neudorfer Pfarrkirche

The Maria-Schnee-Kirche stands beside the Wiener Straße in Wiener Neudorf, a village in the Mödling district of Lower Austria. It is a single-nave early-Classical church with a square crossing and suspended dome. The building was designed by Franz Sebastian Rosenstingl or Isidor Canavale and built by Josef Meissl the Elder between 1777 and 1780. The church’s interior still shows its original stucco and altarpieces. Ignaz Unterberger painted the high-altar picture, while Hubert Mauer contributed the side-altar panels in 1780 and 1781. Johann Wiest’s 1787 organ was restored in 1982 by Helmut Allgäuer. A two-storey parish house with a projecting central section and hipped roof stands south of the church. A connecting wall between church and parish house forms a small triumphal arch with two pointed passages built in 1935. The wall carries the Kriegerdenkmal, later extended with Second World War panels. The whole ensemble, including the tower added in 1871 and renewed in 1960, remains under Denkmalschutz.
