Schloss Kettnitzmühle
Schloss Kettnitzmühle is a small former manor house in the hamlet of the same name, set in gently rolling farmland near Wernberg-Köblitz in Upper Bavaria. The building’s core dates from the 18th century, a single-storey rectangular block topped by a low hipped roof at the west end and a gable at the east. A small chapel projects from the south-west corner, its plain façade echoing the modest scale of the whole.
The site’s story begins in the mid-16th century when it formed part of two landed estates first recorded in 1563. Over the following decades the property passed through several noble and entrepreneurial families, each leaving its mark on the land and its people. Legal disputes and fires marked the Thirty Years War period, yet the core buildings survived, preserving traces of earlier phases now recognised as archaeological monuments.
Today the long single-storey wing stands largely unchanged, its whitewashed walls and simple roof lines framed by mature linden trees. Inside, plain rooms still show the footprint of 18th-century living, while the attached chapel retains its original fittings. The surrounding meadows and farm tracks offer quiet walks back to the quiet lanes of Kettnitzmühle.
