Schloss Draskovich

Schloss Draskovich stands in the town of Güssing in Burgenland. It is the best-preserved classical-style palace in the region and protected by law. The building belongs to the Draskovich family, who use it for managing their forests and estates. The palace sits on the eastern edge of the old town centre. It lies on the slopes of the Schlossberg near Güssing Castle, about 200 m outside the medieval town walls. Around it stretches a park of about eight hectares, bordered by the Schlossberg to the west, the market square to the north, and the B57 ring road to the east and south. The park’s tall trees now hide much of the palace from view. The palace is a two-storey classical building with a three-bay central projection on both sides. Each projection has four half-columns with Ionic capitals and pediments bearing coats of arms. Inside, a salon retains its original Empire furnishings. The palace chapel contains a Gothic winged altarpiece from 1469, the only one of its kind in Burgenland.
