Meall Fuar-mhonaidh

Meall Fuar-mhonaidh is a hill on the west side of Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands. It stands 699 metres high and is classed as both a Graham and a Marilyn. Its smooth, rounded shape makes it a clear landmark visible from many points along the loch. The hill rises above wooded slopes before opening onto open moorland. Grotaig, a small hamlet at the end of a minor road south-west of Drumnadrochit, serves as the usual starting point for the climb. The route from Grotaig follows a footpath through mixed woodland before emerging onto higher ground. Walkers then follow the ridge south-westwards, gaining height gradually across open moorland. The path is well-defined and leads directly to the summit without technical difficulty. The hill is popular with hillwalkers seeking a straightforward but rewarding ascent. Its height and position provide wide views across Loch Ness and the surrounding glens. At the top, the summit offers a broad panorama of the Great Glen. On clear days the view stretches north to Inverness and south towards Fort William. The rounded summit area is grassy and free of obstacles, making it a good spot to rest. The ridge walk itself provides varied scenery, from dense forest to open heather moor. The return follows the same route, giving a satisfying circular walk of moderate length.
