Burghalde Kolbingen
The Burghalde Kolbingen is an early medieval hillfort on a trapezoidal spur rising to 824 metres above sea level. It stands a kilometre south of Kolbingen in the Tuttlingen district of Baden-Württemberg. The fort was probably built between the 8th and 11th centuries. Only remnants of its walls and ditches remain today.
Archaeologists recognise the site as part of a wider network of fortifications in the region. Studies by Hans-Wilhelm Heine describe its defensive layout in detail. Later work by Christoph Morrissey and Dieter Müller maps the surrounding earthworks near Dürbheim and Tuttlingen.
Visitors walk among grassy ramparts and shallow ditches that trace the old perimeter. The spur offers wide views across the surrounding countryside. The quiet hilltop shows how medieval builders used natural slopes to strengthen their position.
