Streichkopf

The Streichkopf is a 2,243-metre peak in the Rofan range, a subgroup of the Brandenberger Alps in Tirol. Seen from the north it presents a sheer rocky face, but from the south its grassy slopes rise gently. Three sharp ridges extend north-west, east and south from the summit, giving the mountain its distinctive shape. The mountain stands near the south-western end of the Rofan’s main crest, where the chain bends and the Dalfazer Wände branch off towards the south. Close neighbours are the 2,169-metre Stuhlböcklkopf along the north-west ridge and the 2,299-metre Hochiss, the range’s highest point, to the east. Below the north-east face the ground falls steeply to the Mahrentalalm at 1,277 metres, while to the west it drops more gently to the Kotalmsattel at 1,976 metres and onward to the Achensee. A well-marked network of paths crosses the Rofan, and the Streichkopf is easily reached from the Erfurter Hütte at 1,831 metres north of Maurach. The usual route, waymarked 413, climbs north towards the Hochiss before turning west to the summit, passing over some broken ground near the top.
