Glaneck

Glaneck is a 2,262-metre peak in the Seckau Tauern range of Upper Styria. It straddles the border between the Gaal and Pölstal municipalities in the Austrian Alps. The summit sits between the Lahneck to the north and the Kesseleck to the south.

The mountain serves as a key waypoint on long-distance hiking routes. A full-day trek from the Sommertörl pass to the Amachkogel, for example, crosses Glaneck and covers roughly 20 kilometres in about nine and a half hours. From its summit, walkers enjoy wide views across the region, taking in the Sonntagkogel, Planspitze, Pletzen, Großer Ringkogel and the Lachtal valley with its wind farm.

The surrounding landscape offers open alpine meadows and rugged ridges. The route follows well-marked paths that lead steadily upward through changing vegetation zones. On clear days the Tauern peaks stand out against the horizon, while the wind turbines below mark the valley floor. The contrast between high peaks and industrial wind farms creates a striking scene.
