Enzian

The Enzian is a mountain standing on the border between two counties in the Bavarian Forest. Its flat, bare summit lies near the Arber ridge, with the municipalities of Lohberg and Drachselsried on its lower slopes. The E6 long-distance path crosses the top, marked by a checkpoint and a summit register. Walkers on the ridge see distant views of the Zellertal valley and the Lamer Winkel bowl. Though close to higher peaks, the Enzian is rarely climbed alone. Its modest height and gentle slopes make it an easy climb from nearby trails. The open summit offers quiet moments away from crowded routes. The checkpoint and register show that some visitors do reach the top. The surrounding forest and valley views reward those who make the short detour. The mountain sits within a landscape of rounded ridges and deep woods. From the summit the E6 path continues towards the Kaitersberg. The route follows the ridge, giving glimpses of distant valleys. The Enzian’s flat top contrasts with the steeper Arber nearby. Its position on the county boundary adds a small but clear landmark to the skyline. The mountain remains a quiet spot for walkers who pass by on longer journeys.
