Turmhügel Forchheim II

A medieval mound stands in the Munichreuth Forest, two kilometres north-north-west of Münchreith church. The nearly square mound rises one to two metres above a surrounding ditch, and a rectangular pit marks its flat top. A low bank runs along the east and north sides, while traces of a wet moat suggest the nearby Kebsbach stream once filled it. Archaeologists found shards of roof tiles and stove tiles in the ditch, all dating from about 1400. These pieces show no signs of use, so they are thought to be waste from repairs or rebuilding. The site is younger than the nearby Forchheim I mound, and may mark a later reoccupation of the vanished village. Visitors walk a forest path to the mound, where the ditch and low bank still shape the ground. The Kebsbach flows close by, and the quiet woodland keeps the remains undisturbed.
