Pfarrkirche hl. Florian, Winden am See

The parish church of Winden am See stands at the southern edge of the village in Burgenland. It is a Roman Catholic church dedicated to Saint Florian and protected as a listed monument. The building replaced an earlier church destroyed during the Second Turkish Siege of Vienna. The church is worth visiting for its well-preserved Baroque architecture and historic furnishings. Elias Hügel, a master stonemason from Kaisersteinbruch, rebuilt it in 1725 using remains of the older structure. Later restorations in 1833, 1898 and 1961 kept its character intact. The church shares design features with the Filialkirche St Lorenz am Mondsee in Upper Austria. Inside, the three-bay nave has a barrel vault with deep lunettes resting on flat pilasters. The tower bay contains an uncolumned gallery with a curved, panelled parapet. The high altar from the early 18th century shows Saint Florian, flanked by statues of kings Ladislaus and Stephen. The right-hand side altar features a painting of Saint Teresa of Ávila by Johann Länner, with figures of Saint Benedict and Saint Bernard. The organ, built in 1819 by Friedrich Deutschmann, has ten registers.
