The Bavarian War College was the highest military school for training general staff officers in the Kingdom of Bavaria. It operated from 1867 until the outbreak of the First World War in 1914. The college ranked alongside similar institutions such as the Prussian War College in Berlin and the Austrian War College in Vienna. It fell under the Inspektion der Militärbildungs-Anstalten, a War Ministry department overseeing all army training.

The college stood in Munich, southwest of the junction of Blutenburgstraße and Pappenheimstraße. It lay near the Marsfeld parade ground and the later Marsfeldkaserne barracks. The building’s location placed it close to the heart of the city’s military training grounds.

Inside, officers studied tactics, weaponry, fortification theory and army organisation. The curriculum also included topography, languages, military history and geography. Physical training formed part of the programme, with foot drill, riding, shooting and sports. The college aimed to produce officers capable of serving on general staffs across the army.
