Pfarrkirche Neu-Erdberg

The Pfarrkirche Don Bosco stands in the Landstraße district of Vienna, near the Hagenmüllergasse. It is a modern Roman Catholic parish church built between 1954 and 1958. The church is dedicated to Saint John Bosco and is protected as a listed monument. The building replaced an earlier chapel from 1908–1910 by architect Corradi, which became a parish church in 1939. Damaged in the Second World War, it was restored and expanded by Robert Kramreiter. The new church is a reinforced concrete structure with striking stained-glass windows and a distinctive tent-like ceiling. The tower includes a former youth hostel for visiting school groups. Inside, the church has a single open space supported by just four pillars. The walls feature modular concrete screens by sculptor Erwin Hauer. The altar is carved from marble by Josef Pillhofer, and the organ, built by Gregor Hradetzky in 1964, has twenty registers. The stained-glass windows, created by artists including Kurt Absolon and Margret Bilger, depict themes from the church year and Christian symbols.
