Friedrich-Mohr-Denkmal

The Friedrich-Mohr-Denkmal stands in Koblenz’s Altstadt on the Friedrich-Ebert-Ring, honouring the local scientist Karl Friedrich Mohr. It was first built in 1914 near the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Ring before war damage led to its dismantling. In 2022 the bronze bust was re-erected on the same ring, now renamed Friedrich-Ebert-Ring, with two bronze reliefs added later. The monument was proposed by the Rhineland pharmacists’ chamber in 1909 and designed by sculptor Hugo Cauer. Its original form was an exedra with plates describing Mohr’s teaching work, centred on a classical-style bronze bust. After the Second World War only the bust survived, kept in the Mittelrhein-Museum while a simpler version stood outside the Eichendorff-Gymnasium. Today visitors find the restored bust on a new pedestal flanked by the two reliefs in modern frames. The surrounding ring is a quiet stretch of the city centre, close to the former site of Mohr’s early school. The bronze surfaces show Mohr’s profile and scenes from his career, linking past and present along a tree-lined boulevard.
