Ahornbüchsenkopf

The Ahornbüchsenkopf is a northern subpeak of the Hoher Göll in the Berchtesgaden Alps. It stands just under six kilometres east of Berchtesgaden, where the German-Austrian border crosses its summit. The mountain’s lightly wooded slopes give way to alpine meadows on the German side. Two mountain inns lie within reach: the Ahornkaser sits at 1,520 metres in the Upper Ahornalm, while the Purtschellerhaus stands higher at 1,692 metres on the Eckerfirst ridge. The peak offers wide views across the Berchtesgaden Alps. From the summit or the nearby Roßfeldhöhenringstraße, the Hochkalter, Reiter Alm and Untersberg are clearly seen. The Salzach valley stretches far below, and the striking north face of the Hoher Göll looms nearby. On clear days the Hoher Dachstein appears to the east, adding to the scene. Paths lead through the alpine meadows and along the ridge to the mountain inns. The Roßfeldhöhenringstraße winds through the summit region, crossing between German and Austrian soil. Streams such as the Larosbach and Sulzgraben rise on the western and eastern slopes, feeding the wider Berchtesgaden Ache catchment.
