Deutsches Motorrollermuseum

The first German Motor Scooter Museum stands in Kaub, a town on the Rhine in the Rhein-Lahn district of Rheinland-Pfalz. It occupies several floors of a former kindergarten building in the town centre. The museum traces its origins to 1979, when Hans Krüger and his wife Elisabeth opened it in Kettenbach. Hans Krüger began riding scooters in 1950 and won German and European championships. He also founded the Vespa Veteran Club Deutschland in 1988. After his death in 2003, his family continued the project. The collection focuses on Vespa models but includes scooters from other makers such as Maico, Heinkel and Moto Guzzi. Among its highlights is a low-slung British airborne scooter from 1943 and an Indian Bajaj Chetak. Altogether 120 scooters are on display, with another 60 stored in reserve. The museum also supplies spare parts for classic scooters. Visitors walk through rooms arranged by marque and period. Labels explain each machine’s history and technical features. The Bajaj Chetak and the 1943 airborne scooter draw particular attention. The building’s former classrooms now serve as galleries, giving the displays an intimate scale.
