Kath. Pfarrkirche Maria Schutz

The Catholic parish church of Maria Schutz stands in the village green of Kottingneusiedl, a hamlet in the town of Laa an der Thaya in northern Lower Austria. Built in the 19th century, it belongs to the deanery of Laa-Gaubitsch and is listed as a protected monument. The church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary under the title of Maria Schutz. The church was completed in 1869 as a neo-Gothic structure. The parish itself was only set up in 1950, making it one of the younger parishes in the area. Its exterior shows buttresses along the nave and a five-sided choir, while the south front has a small tower built into the façade. Inside, the three-bay nave is covered by barrel and ribbed vaults, and the organ loft repeats the ribbed vaulting. The raised choir also carries a ribbed vault. Visitors find the original furnishings from the building period. The high altar is a columned aedicula with a painting of Maria Schutz flanked by statues of Saint Catherine and Saint Barbara. The organ, built in 1871 by Franz Strommer, has five stops. A polygonal sacristy is attached to the east side of the church.
