Innerbraz Magnuskapelle

A small Roman Catholic wayside chapel dedicated to Saint Magnus stands beside the power-plant settlement in Innerbraz, a village in the Klostertal valley in Vorarlberg. It belongs to the parish church of Braz and is listed as a protected monument. The building was raised in 1634, according to an inscription on the front and the altarpiece. The chapel sits on a gentle slope and has a simple rectangular plan with an open wooden porch facing north-east to south-west. A small bell turret crowned with a cross rises at the north-east end above the altar. The roof and turret are covered with wooden shingles. The interior is lit only through an iron grille that blocks entry. Inside, the altarpiece shows Saint Magnus holding a book surmounted by a cross in his left hand and a pilgrim’s staff in his right, set against a local landscape. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from the 18th century and a 19th-century crucifix stand on the side wall. The route of the Jakobsweg from Landeck to Einsiedeln passes through Innerbraz, linking the Arlberg road and railway line with the Arlberg Schnellstraße below. The chapel remains a quiet landmark beside the old trade road that once linked the Arlberg pass with Bludenz.
