Field Mill

Field Mill, now called One Call Stadium, stands in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, on Quarry Lane beside the River Maun. The ground has been a football venue since 1861, making it the oldest in the Football League. Originally a water-powered textile mill stood across the road, demolished in 1925. The site was once a recreation area for workers from Greenhalgh & Sons’ cotton business. Harwood Greenhalgh, a Mansfield-born player, appeared for Notts County and England in the first international match. In 1912 the ground hosted Mansfield Mechanics FC before Mansfield Town moved in during the 1919–20 season. The ground has seen many changes since then. The first grandstand was built in 1922, and floodlights were switched on by Billy Wright in 1961. A stand from Hurst Park Racecourse was rebuilt here in the 1960s. Safety restrictions have twice cut capacity, once to 4,684 in 2007. After eviction in 2010 the club returned under new owners John and Carolyn Radford. A clause now prevents non-sport use until 2032. Recent work has added seating in the Bishop Street Stand, raising capacity again. Visitors find four main stands around the pitch. The Ian Greaves Stand has upper and lower tiers with executive seating and the dugouts at its front. The Quarry Lane End holds home fans behind the south goal, while the North Stand, once the home terrace, now serves away supporters. The Bishop Street Stand runs along the east side and has recently been refurbished with 727 new seats. The ground’s history is visible in its terracing and floodlights, and the River Maun can be seen beyond the stands.
