Meuthturm

The Meuthturm is a sandstone tower built in the 19th century in a neo-Gothic style. It stands on the site of the Kaiserslautern Garden Show at the foot of the Kaiserberg. Once part of a two-storey garden pavilion belonging to the villa of local lawyer and entrepreneur Franz Flamin Meuth, it is now the only surviving structure from that estate. The tower reflects the grand villa culture of late 19th-century Kaiserslautern. Meuth, a co-founder of the city’s worsted-spinning mill, used the upper floor for astronomical observations. After the villa and its park fell into disuse, the pavilion was reduced to this single remnant, which now appears on the list of cultural monuments in Kaiserslautern. Visitors reach the tower along paths laid out for the Garden Show. A historical teaching trail with information boards tells the story of Meuth’s life and work. Nearby, a garden of biblical plants features an apple tree symbolising the Tree of Knowledge, alongside olive, oleander and kumquat. The surrounding area includes a restored staircase and newly uncovered terrace walls, giving a sense of the original landscaped grounds.
