Židovská brána

The Židovská brána, the Jewish Gate, belongs to the fortification system of Olomouc. Gates like this one were the controlled entrances and exits of the fortress town, since anyone going in or out had to pass through them. The name recalls the Jewish history of the city. Today the structure survives as a remnant of the defensive ring that enclosed the old town for centuries and of which only scattered gates, posterns and stretches of wall now bear witness.
