Filialkirche Maria Brunneck

The Filialkirche Maria Brunneck stands on the Pass Lueg in the municipality of Golling an der Salzach, Salzburg. A small pilgrimage church dedicated to the Holy Family, it belongs to the parish of Golling and is protected as a listed monument. The building was constructed between 1764 and 1766, replacing an earlier chapel recorded in 1715. In 1964 the church underwent restoration, including the installation of a new bronze door by Anneliese and Josef Zenzmaier. The interior features rich Baroque stucco by Benedikt Zöpf from 1765. The church’s architecture centres on a rectangular nave with a three-lobed floor plan and a shallow, rounded chancel. A small bell tower rises above the chancel roof. North and south of the nave are two-storey sacristies, each with symmetrically placed pulpits above their doors. The west end holds a curved Baroque gallery reached by a spiral staircase. The ceiling shows a flat cross vault in the nave and a segmental barrel vault in the chancel, both framed by a bold cornice. Inside, the high altar of 1765 carries a painting of the Rest on the Flight to Egypt by Josef Strubreiter from 1903. Flanking statues of Saint Ferdinand and Saint Barbara date from the late 18th century, while four Evangelist statuettes were added around 1800. A 1730 image of the Holy Family and several late 18th-century works were transferred from Golling parish church. Votive pictures and devotional statues, including an 18th-century Immaculata and corn-mother Madonna, are preserved here. Among the relics is a cannonball from the French wars of 1809.
