Pfarrkirche Stuhlfelden

The Roman Catholic parish church of Stuhlfelden stands in the village centre of the municipality of Stuhlfelden in the Zell am See district of Salzburg. It is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and belongs to the deanery of Stuhlfelden in the Archdiocese of Salzburg. The church and its cemetery are protected monuments. The church dates back to a building recorded in 963 and became a parish for the Upper Pinzgau in 1140. After a Baroque remodelling, it was re-Gothicised in 1898. The exterior and the Antonius and Michaels chapels were restored in 1979–80. The single-nave Romanesque nave has a Gothic choir and west tower, surrounded by the cemetery. Inside, the high altar of marble was designed by Wolfgang Hagenauer and carved by Johann Högler. It features a late 15th-century Madonna and Child flanked by saints by Petrus Schmid. The Baroque tabernacle was altered in 1899. The organ, built in 1706 by Johann Christoph and Johann Ignaz Egedacher, has a painted image of Saint Cecilia. Two bells from 1541 and 1563 hang in the tower. Sixteenth- to eighteenth-century gravestones mark the surrounding burial ground.
