Heuchelberger Warte

The Heuchelberger Warte is a former watchtower near Großgartach in the Heilbronn district. It stands at 315 metres above sea level on the eastern tip of the Heuchelberg ridge. The tower offers wide views across the Württemberg lowlands.
Built in 1483 under Count Eberhard im Bart, the slender round tower once marked the western end of the Württemberg Landgraben. This earthwork formed the northern border of Württemberg and blocked the Neckar valley between the Heuchelberg and Löwenstein mountains. After Württemberg expanded north in 1805, the Landgraben lost its purpose and was levelled. The tower was restored in 1897–98 and raised slightly, then again in 1952. It now serves as a viewing platform.
Beside the tower stands a restaurant with a beer garden and leisure facilities. The site is a popular weekend destination for visitors from Heilbronn. Two long-distance trails of the Swabian Alb Association pass the Warte: the Frankenweg and the Württemberg Wine Trail. The tower belongs to Leingarten, whose flag flies at the top.
