Beinn Tulaichean

Beinn Tulaichean is a 946-metre Munro in the southern Highlands. It stands south of Crianlarich within Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. The mountain’s Gaelic name means ‘hill of little hills’. It shares a broad two-kilometre ridge with its neighbour Cruach Ardrain. Because the ridge drops to a low col, many walkers treat Beinn Tulaichean as an extension of Cruach Ardrain rather than a separate summit. The mountain is often climbed together with Cruach Ardrain. The northern route from Crianlarich is long, so most parties start from the small settlement of Inverlochlarig west of Balquhidder. From there a stalkers’ path leads up gentle slopes to the connecting ridge. The final climb to the summit is straightforward and rewards walkers with wide views across the surrounding glens. The summit itself is grassy and rounded, with a small cairn marking the highest point. To the south-west the eye follows the ridge towards Cruach Ardrain’s craggy top. North-eastward the land falls away to Loch Lubnaig and the braes of Balquhidder. On clear days Ben Lomond and the Trossachs can be seen in the distance. The whole ridge walk offers a quiet Highland day out without the crowds of more famous peaks.
