Pendle Hippodrome Theatre

The Pendle Hippodrome Theatre stands in Colne, Lancashire, a volunteer-run venue in a converted 1914 cinema and variety theatre. The building was bought in 1978 by three local operatic societies and restored over eight years. It is now owned by the Pendle Hippodrome Theatre Company and operates as a registered charity. The theatre provides space for local performers, schools, musical, drama and dance groups. It also hosts the Theatre Company and the Pendle Hippodrome Youth Theatre. The theatre is worth the journey for its community role and recognition. In 2015 it received The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. The purchase of a neighbouring public house in 2014 shows plans for future expansion. All work is done by volunteers without outside funding. The theatre remains independent and self-sustaining.
