Rumer Spitze

The Rumer Spitze is a 2,454-metre peak in the Karwendel range, part of the Nordkette in Tirol. It stands north of Rum and Arzl, overlooking the Inn Valley and Innsbruck. The mountain’s southern slopes rise steeply from grassy ledges and broken rock, while the northern face drops in layered slabs. Climbers value the Rumer Spitze for its two marked routes. The West Ridge from Arzler Scharte is the most popular, starting near the Hafelekar cable-car station and offering a straightforward ascent. An easier route follows the East Ridge from Kreuzjöchl, while the South Face via Alblehner avalanche gully is used mainly in spring as a ski tour. Local huts such as the Enzianhütte, Rumer Alm and Pfeishütte provide food and shelter along the approaches. From the summit visitors look down on Innsbruck and the Inn Valley. The rocky crest is narrow, with views extending to the Mandlspitze and Thaurer Jochspitze. On clear days the distant peaks of the Wetterstein range appear above the city. The contrast between the wild northern cliffs and the gentler southern meadows adds to the mountain’s appeal.
