Agroneum
The Agroneum Alt Schwerin is an open-air agricultural history museum in the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte district. It sits in the village of Alt Schwerin, where the old manor estate and farm buildings remain. The site traces farming life in Mecklenburg from 1848 to the present day. The museum is worth visiting for its extensive collection of rural tools, machines and vehicles. A highlight is the preserved DDR exhibition ‘5000 Jahre Landwirtschaft in Mecklenburg’ from 1988, which shows life in the late 1980s. Regular events include an international steam engine meeting every two years and an annual classic car and tractor show. The museum also holds about fifteen motorcycles, ten mopeds, twenty bicycles, four cars, five lorries and buses, thirty engines and thirty tractors. Visitors walk past restored farm cottages, a single-class village school from around 1910 and two stone bread ovens. The 50-metre-long Landarbeiterkate shows living conditions in 1910, 1942 and 1965. A 1923 Lanz-Bulldog tractor and a 19th-century neobarock manor gate awarded in Chicago stand on the grounds. Flower and kitchen gardens, a flight hall with two crop-spraying aircraft and the English-style park around the former manor house complete the visit.
