Museum der Stadt Lünen
The Museum der Stadt Lünen stands in the town centre beside the town hall, housed since 2025 in the Villa Urbahn, a listed 1920s villa restored to its former grandeur. The museum brings together the old villa and a modern extension, creating a single flowing space for its displays. The building’s architecture itself tells a story of Lünen’s past and present. The museum’s exhibits focus on everyday life, industry and the people who shaped the town. Visitors follow a clear route through rooms that use touchable models, sounds and materials to bring history to life. A digital gallery invites people to create their own silhouette portrait, which is then added to a growing wall of local personalities. Themed sections explore work, family life and the city’s social fabric. Inside, the permanent collection covers work and industry, family memories and the town’s history. A changing programme of temporary shows occupies the basement gallery. Outside, the villa’s quiet setting contrasts with the busy streets just metres away.
