Pfarrkirche Molln
The parish church of Molln stands at the heart of the village in Upper Austria’s Steyrtal valley. Built of stone, it is dedicated to Saint Lawrence and has been under official protection since the 13th century. The present building grew from a modest medieval church first recorded in 1241. The church rewards a visit with layers of history visible in every part. The late-Gothic nave still carries its original 15th-century roof frame, while the tower’s pointed cap was finished only in 1913. Inside, the 1769 high altar by Leopold Kupelwieser shows the Last Supper, and side windows from 1915 depict the four Evangelists in vivid colour. The 1976 organ and the 17th-century communion lattice add further musical and craftsmanship interest. Visitors enter through a small porch beside the sacristy and find a single nave divided by a narrow arch into nave and choir. The two-bay choir ends in five sides of an octagon and is rib-vaulted like the nave. On the north side a chapel houses a Gothic font under a neo-Gothic canopy, while the south aisle, added in 1929, holds a painted iron grave cross from the 18th century. The west gallery carries the old communion screen reused as a railing, completing the blend of medieval structure and later embellishment.
