Pfarrkirche Mariä Himmelfahrt, Langegg
The parish church of Langegg stands in the village of Langegg, part of the town of Schrems in Lower Austria. It is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and belongs to the Gmünd deanery in the diocese of St Pölten. The church is protected as a listed monument. Built between 1784 and 1790 in the Joseph II style, the church has a rectangular nave and a narrower five-sided chancel. A square west tower with a bell-shaped roof rises from the gable front, which is decorated with pilasters. On the north side of the chancel a sacristy is attached. Inside, the nave and chancel have flat ceilings above a cornice supported by doubled pilasters in the centre of the hall. The ceiling painting, a Marian redemption programme, was executed in 1957 by Maria Sturm. The high altar features a painting of the Assumption of Mary flanked by baroque statues of Saints Anne and Joachim. A late 15th-century carved Madonna and Child, brought here in 1786 from the Dominican church in Krems, is also preserved. The organ case dates from the second half of the 19th century, though the present instrument was installed in 2004. The rounded corners of the nave and the gentle arch between nave and chancel add to the calm, classical proportions of the interior.
