Schloss Tutzing
Schloss Tutzing stands beside Lake Starnberg in the market town of Tutzing. The present building began as a fortified tower in the Middle Ages, later rebuilt in the 17th century after wartime destruction. In the early 19th century the Vieregg family enlarged it into a classical three-wing palace with an English garden. The palace’s interiors reflect later owners. Marcell Nemes, a Hungarian financier, added the grand portico and turned the palm house into a lavish hall with Italian coffered ceilings. The Evangelical Academy now uses the rooms for conferences and seminars, hosting about ninety events each year with twelve thousand participants. Visitors walk through the hufeisen-shaped main building and its chapel. The English park contains a round lecture hall, a glass-and-timber restaurant, and a fountain by Georg Bersch. Statues by Caspar von Zumbusch line the lakeside terrace, while Roman and medieval fragments are set among the lawns and avenues.
