Zweigstraße 10

The Hotel Kronprinz stands in Munich’s Ludwigsvorstadt district at Zweigstraße 10. Built between 1881 and 1882, it is a protected monument listed under number D-1-62-000-7793. The building was designed by Lorenz Bauer in the ornate Neo-Renaissance style, featuring pilasters, banded cornices, window frames, a cornice and a decorative gable. Its layout centres on a light well with rooms arranged forward and backward, while vaulted halls occupy the basement. The original mansard roof was lost during the Second World War and reconstructed in 2000. Today the former hotel functions as office space, while the basement now houses several cookery schools. The building’s rich decoration and careful planning reflect Munich’s late 19th-century ambition to create grand urban hotels. Visitors to the site find a solid stone façade rising above the street. Inside, the vaulted basement halls remain largely unchanged, their brick arches echoing the building’s original purpose. The reconstructed mansard roof gives the exterior its former grandeur, while the central light well still brings daylight into the heart of the structure. The surrounding Ludwigsvorstadt district offers cafés and shops, linking the building to Munich’s wider urban life.
