The Großmarkthalle München is a wholesale market in Munich’s Sendling district, spread across 310,000 square metres. It sits near the Mittlerer Ring, Munich’s inner ring road, with U-Bahn stations Brudermühlstraße, Implerstraße and Poccistraße close by. The market handles goods from 83 countries, with 270 importing companies offering 140 product classes. Daily deliveries reach almost every European country, supplying a region of about five million people. A combined heat and power station with three tall chimneys marks the main entrance. The South Station next to the market has its own railway sidings for freight trains.

The market’s scale is clear in its figures: 65 horticultural producers, 45 florists and 15 wholesalers of miscellaneous lines operate here. Goods arrive by road and rail, with customs clearance handled on site. The market acts as an advanced border entry point, making import and export formalities straightforward. Trucks can park around the clock, while freight halls operate from early morning to evening. Sales take place in the morning, with the busiest hours before midday.

Visitors see a working market rather than a tourist site. The chimneys of the power station rise above the loading bays and warehouses. Lorries queue at the South Station’s unloading platforms, while traders move crates of produce between halls. The area is functional, with wide roads and open yards designed for heavy traffic. The mix of international goods and local suppliers creates a busy atmosphere before dawn. The market closes early in the afternoon, leaving the site quiet for the rest of the day.
