Sauklippe

The Sauklippe is a forested hilltop in the Kellerwald range, part of the Hoher Keller ridge north-east of Bad Zwesten in northern Hesse. It stands 1.3 kilometres by air from the Hunsrück, a nearby summit on the same ridge, and 4.5 kilometres south-south-east of Jesberg village. The hill rises above the valleys of the Urff to the north, the Schwalm to the east and the Gilsa to the south-east. The ridge is made of layers of sandstone and clay that have been shaped by erosion over many centuries. Walkers reach the open summit via short paths that branch off the Kellerwaldsteig, a 156-kilometre trail through the nature park, and the Lulluspfad, an 184-kilometre route linking the Edersee to the Rennsteig. The views from the top stretch across the rolling hills of the West Hessian Bergland. On clear days the landscape spreads as far as the knolls around Bad Wildungen to the north-west and the basalt cone of the Wüstegarten, the highest point in the Kellerwald, to the south-west. The summit itself is marked by a simple wooden post and a low stone cairn, surrounded by beech and oak woods that belong to the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park.
