Theater FLIN

KaBARett FLiN is a small arts theatre in Düsseldorf-Grafenberg, housed in a building dating from 1904. It stands on Ludenberger Straße, close to Staufenplatz in the leafy suburb of Grafenberg. The stage began life in 1999 as a tiny attic room in Flingern before moving to its present site in 2015. Two directors, Oliver Priebe and Philipp Kohlen-Priebe, expanded it from a 20-seat cellar to an 80-seat venue over a decade. In 2020 the founders passed the keys to a new team, Teresa and Kristof Stößel. The house still keeps its original motto: sharp humour and hearty entertainment. The theatre is known for booking well-known cabaret acts and staging its own productions. One of its biggest successes was the in-house comedy Faust parody, “Fast Faust – oder des Pudels Kern,” directed by Philipp Kohlen-Priebe. The show ran more than 150 times to full houses. Past guests have included Ingo Oschmann, Lioba Albus, Franziska Traub and Birgit Schrowange. The company also produced plays such as “Die heilige Johanna der Einbauküche” and “Shakespear’s Greatest Hits.” A special evening in 2007 marked the 60th anniversary of Johanna Ey with a collaboration called “Bühne frei für Mutter Ey.” Inside, the former Haus Marx building offers a stage, tiered seating for eighty, and a small bar. The programme mixes comedy nights, cabaret evenings and original plays. Outside, Grafenberg’s quiet streets lead to Staufenplatz, where cafés and shops sit beside the theatre. The building itself, with its high ceilings and wooden fittings, gives the space a warm, intimate feel. Audiences come for the sharp writing, the lively performances and the sense that every show is made with care.
