Bryn, Llanbradach round cairn

A round cairn stands on Bryn, near Llanbradach in Caerphilly County Borough. It dates from the end of the Stone Age and the start of the Bronze Age. The site lies at grid reference ST136908 on gently sloping ground. Its purpose was probably tied to burial rites and religious ceremonies. Cadw has listed the monument and assigned it the SAM number GM463. The builders who raised this cairn also created chambered tombs and standing stones. They constructed burial mounds, stone circles and hillforts across the landscape. These people left behind a network of ancient sites that still mark the hills. Their work shows how widely such traditions spread in the region. Visitors reach the round cairn along quiet paths through farmland. The grassy mound is small but clearly defined, with a flat top and stony edges. From the site there are wide views over the surrounding valleys. The air is quiet, broken only by the wind and birds.
