Aufacker

Aufacker is a mountain 1 542 metres high in the Ammergau Alps. It stands between the Hörnle to the northwest and the Laber to the southeast. A smaller neighbour, the Little Aufacker, rises 700 metres farther east at 1 531 metres. The climb is gentle through mixed woodland on forest and hiking paths. Walkers usually start in Oberammergau, pass the hamlet of St Gregor and reach the summit in about two hours. Another route begins at the Romanshöhe inn near the village and follows the same ridge. At the top a modest cross marks the highest point. The forest thins to give wide views over the valley and the surrounding peaks. On clear days the Wetterstein range appears in the distance.
