Green Park tube station

Green Park station stands at the south-eastern corner of Green Park in the City of Westminster. It sits between Piccadilly and the park’s edge, with entrances on both sides of the road. Three Underground lines serve the station: the Jubilee, Piccadilly and Victoria. On the Jubilee line it lies between Bond Street and Westminster stations, on the Piccadilly line between Hyde Park Corner and Piccadilly Circus, and on the Victoria line between Victoria and Oxford Circus. The station belongs to London fare zone 1. The station opened in 1906 as Dover Street, built by the Great Northern, Piccadilly and Brompton Railway. In the 1930s it was modernised, lifts were replaced by escalators and the ticket hall was rebuilt. The name changed to Green Park in 1933 when the new entrances opened. The Victoria line platforms arrived in 1969, followed by the Jubilee line in the 1970s. Queen Elizabeth II officially opened the Victoria line by riding a train from Green Park to Oxford Circus. Visitors find a large sub-surface ticket hall beneath Piccadilly. Escalators descend to the Piccadilly line platforms 27.4 metres below street level. The Victoria line platforms lie 23.4 metres down, linked by a long interchange passageway. Grey tiles line the newer areas, while cream tiles with mid-blue patterns remain from the 1930s. Seat recesses on the Victoria line platforms carry an abstract pattern of coloured circles designed by Hans Unger.
