Pfarrkirche Hl. Kilian

The parish church of Koblach stands on a hill above the village in the municipality of Koblach, in Feldkirch district, Vorarlberg. It is dedicated to Saint Kilian and belongs to the deanery of Rankweil within the diocese of Feldkirch. The building is protected as a listed monument. Three chapels are linked to the parish: the chapel of Saint Roch in Neuburg, the chapel of Rheinmahd, and the chapel of Saint Joseph in the old people’s home. The present church replaced an earlier structure that had been enlarged in 1658. In 1675 it became a parish church after being a branch of Kreuzlingen monastery. The new church was built in 1905 under the guidance of parish priest Johann Jakob Flatz, and the north tower was added between 1905 and 1907 to plans by architect Albert Rimli. Inside, the church combines a choir, nave and transept with a small stair turret and a curved gable. The interior shows frescoes by Wolfram Köberl from 1965. On the altar wall a copper relief by Willi Veith depicts Christ with the twelve apostles, while the altar mensa portrays the Sermon on the Mount and, to left and right, the offerings of Melchizedek and the Prodigal Son. The organ, built between 1981 and 1982 by Rieger Orgelbau of Schwarzach, has 21 registers.
