Church of the Coronation of Mary

The Pfarrkirche Marz is a Roman Catholic parish church in Marz, Burgenland. It stands on elevated ground above the village. The church is dedicated to the Feast of the Coronation of Mary and belongs to the Mattersburg deanery in the Diocese of Eisenstadt. It has been protected as a listed monument since the 17th century. The church was rebuilt after a fire in 1683 using surviving Gothic masonry, with Zacharias Gundian as the patron in 1691. A later fire in 1733 led to further restoration. The interior was repainted in 1975 and the exterior restored in 1979, revealing original Gothic windows. The church’s west tower, added in the 18th century, features a stone pyramid roof with small gables and corner turrets. Inside, the high altar from the late 18th century has a tall structure with columns and angels. The organ, built in 1959 with 14 registers, was made by Dreher and Reinisch. The church’s south wall carries the 1691 inscription of Zacharias Gundian. The Gothic choir, with its stepped buttresses, bears the date 1628 on one of them.
