Theater Ravensburg stands in the heart of Ravensburg, a town in Upper Swabia. It is a small professional theatre with its own ensemble that performs around two hundred shows each year. Performances take place both in its own venue and on tour in other towns. The theatre is supported by a local association founded in 1985 and receives forty per cent of its funding from public grants.

The theatre opened in 1987 under Albert Bauer’s direction with a children’s play directed by Philipp Lämmerzahl. In 1992 it moved into a permanent home in a former art school, then in 1996 into a larger converted joinery nearby. The new building provided space for a hundred and fifty seats and a foyer used for smaller events. Open-air performances are held in the courtyard during summer.

The programme mixes new plays by local writers with classic works and touring productions. Ingrid Lausund served as house author in the 1990s, writing and producing several pieces herself. Recent seasons have featured guest actors such as Erik Rastetter and Britta Horn alongside regular ensemble members like Tobias Bernhardt and Alex Niess. The theatre also runs dance days, youth theatre workshops and circus training for children.
