Schillerdenkmal

The Schillerdenkmal stands in Löbejün, a village in the municipality of Wettin-Löbejün in Saxony-Anhalt. It occupies a protected site within the local monument register, listed under the Plötzer Tor area. The monument itself is a simple stele topped with a relief of Friedrich Schiller. A second relief plate, set in front, carries an inscription in German. The monument was raised in 1955 to mark the 150th anniversary of Schiller’s death. Erich Lenné, a goldsmith and metal sculptor from Halle, created the relief plate. The chosen Schiller quotation also served as a quiet political statement soon after Germany’s division. The text remains visible on the bronze surface. Visitors find the stele beside the old Plötzer Tor gateway. The relief shows Schiller’s profile in low metalwork. The inscription quotes his own words in clear lettering. The setting is quiet, with the Saale river flowing nearby. The monument stands as a modest tribute to a German writer in a small town square.
