Monzabonsee

The Monzabonsee is a small alpine lake in the Lech Valley of the Lechtal Alps. It sits at 2,150 metres above sea level on the slopes of Mount Rufikopf, which rises to 2,362 metres. The lake’s high setting gives it a crisp, clean atmosphere far from towns. Two main routes lead to its shores: one by cable car from Lech up to the summit station, followed by a short marked walk. The other follows a mountain trail from Zürs through the Monzabon Alm alpine pasture, climbing about 400 metres over roughly two hours. The lake is worth the climb for its quiet beauty and clear reflections of the surrounding peaks. The Monzabon Alm, a working alpine farm, adds a rustic touch with its wooden buildings and grazing cattle. Hikers on the trail pass through pastures dotted with wildflowers in summer. The route rewards walkers with wide views across the Lechtal Alps and down to the valley below. The contrast between the high, open landscape and the green meadows makes the journey memorable. Visitors find a small, still lake ringed by rocky slopes and patches of snow even late in the season. The marked path around the water is short but steep in places, offering glimpses of marmots and alpine birds. Nearby peaks like the Grosse Krottenkopf and the Valluga tower above, framing the scene. The air carries the scent of pine and alpine herbs. At the summit station of the cable car, a terrace overlooks the lake and the valley, providing a place to rest before the descent.
