Church of St. Peter, Langford Budville

The Church of St. Peter stands in the small village of Langford Budville in Somerset. Built of red sandstone, the church dates from the 15th century and is recognised as a Grade I listed building. Its tower was added in 1509, followed soon after by the south aisle. In 1846 the building was restored, and in 1866 a north aisle was added to hold worshippers from Binden House. A vestry and organ chamber were added in 1873, and the tower holds five bells rehung in the 1990s. The church is worth the journey for its historic fabric and quiet presence. Until 1863 it served as a chapelry of Milverton, and in 1930 Runnington joined the benefice. It now belongs to the Wellington and district benefice within the Tone deanery. The Grade I listing recognises its architectural importance, and the War Memorial brass plaque records local service. The recent refurbishment repaired roof and stonework while preserving the five bells. Inside, the church seats about 150 people across nave and aisles. The tower’s bells remain in use after their 1990s restoration. The brass War Memorial plaque is fixed on a wall, and the organ chamber houses the instrument installed in 1873. The stonework and roof carry the marks of centuries, from the 15th-century tower to the Victorian additions. Outside, the Somerset countryside surrounds the building, offering a peaceful setting.
