Cadair Bronwen

Cadair Bronwen is a mountain in North Wales that belongs to the Berwyn range. It stands south of higher summits such as Cadair Berwyn and north of Moel yr Henfaes and Moel Fferna. The mountain once had a Nuttall top called Cadair Bronwen North-East Top, measured at 700 m. This subsidiary top was removed from lists after a re-survey in 2007. Its main summit remains the highest point in Wrexham County Borough. The peak offers wide views across the Welsh countryside and the Clwydian Range. Walkers often climb from the village of Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog. The route follows old tracks through heather and grassland before reaching the open summit. The name Cadair Bronwen means ‘Bronwen’s chair’, linking it to a local legend. On top a simple cairn marks the highest point. The ground falls away steeply on all sides, giving a sense of height. The summit ridge runs north–south for a short distance. From here the Berwyn summits and the Clwydian hills can be seen in clear weather. The open moorland around the peak is quiet and uncrowded.
