Leprosenkirche

The Leprosenhauskirche stands beside the former Leprosenhaus on Müllner-Hauptstraße in Mülln, a district of Salzburg beside the Salzach. The small church is dedicated to Saints Jerome and Anthony the Hermit and is joined to the long, low building that once cared for lepers. Both structures are protected as historic monuments. Built in the early 18th century and consecrated in 1714, the church replaced a medieval hospice recorded in the 13th century. Its plain rectangular nave ends in a rounded apse, lit by oval windows above round-arched glazing. Inside, three bays are covered by cross-ribbed vaults resting on Tuscan pilasters. The high altar from the early 1700s carries statues of Jerome and Anthony, with figures of Sebastian and Roch above. The central painting once served a side altar in Maria Dorfen, while the organ, rebuilt in 1981, retains its original 1910 case and pipes. The two-storey gallery overlooks the nave, and the roof rises to a small bell tower.
