Saint Michael Church

The Catholic parish church of St Michael stands on a slight rise above the village of Haselbach in Lower Austria. Its present building occupies a site in the east of the village, replacing an earlier church on the Michelberg. The church belongs to the deanery of Stockerau and the vicariate of the Manhartsberg under the Archdiocese of Vienna.
The church is worth visiting for its late Baroque architecture and its furnishings. The high altar, painted by Michelangelo Unterberger, shows St Michael and was completed between 1745 and 1749. The side altar, pulpit and baptismal font all date from the 18th century. The organ case, built in 1903 by Josef Ullmann, adds a later touch to the interior.
Inside, the church is a single rectangular hall covered by a series of cross-vaults. The west end holds an organ loft with a painted balcony front. The east end contains the chancel and the Heilig-Grab chapel. The exterior shows a plain façade framed by pilasters and a small tower crowned by a pyramid roof. The attached chapel on the west side and the sacristy on the east complete the ensemble.
