Gut Weißenhaus

Gut Weissenhaus is a grand estate beside the Baltic Sea in Wangels, Kreis Ostholstein, about 100 km from Hamburg. The 75-hectare grounds include restored historic buildings and a small village. Jan Henric Buettner bought the estate in 2005 and opened a luxury resort there in 2014. Renovation work cost €7.5 million, raised partly through crowdfunding on Companisto. The project drew more investment than any other for-profit European campaign on that platform. The resort’s restaurant Courier earned a Michelin star in 2015 and 16 Gault Millau points. In May 2022 the estate hosted the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting. Buettner later organised the Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T. Challenge tournament in 2024. The setting combines historic charm with modern luxury. Visitors find elegant rooms, landscaped gardens and sea views across the estate. The restored village adds to the atmosphere with its own character. Paths wind through parkland and along the shoreline. The resort’s restaurant offers fine dining in refined surroundings. The whole place blends heritage with contemporary comfort.
