Schloss Heubach

Schloss Heubach is a 16th-century castle in the town of Heubach in the Ostalbkreis district of Baden-Württemberg. It stands on the site of a former parish house belonging to Königsbronn monastery, which was replaced in 1525 when Georg VII von Woellwarth acquired the land. He built a three-storey rectangular structure, which later became a widow’s residence for his wife Barbara Eckbrecht von Türckheim. The castle passed through several owners, including Johann von Wessen, who bought it in 1698, and Henrica Louisa Schertlin von Burtenbach, who sold it to Württemberg in 1726. The building fell into disrepair until the town of Heubach purchased it in 1985 and began restoration in 1991. The work was completed in 1997, and the castle now houses the town library on the first floor. It also contains the registry office’s wedding room and the Mieder Museum, opened in 2005. Plans for further renovation were announced in 2018, with state funding of around €400,000 granted in 2022 to support the work. Visitors to the castle find a carefully restored Renaissance building with modern uses. The first floor holds the library, while the wedding room and museum occupy other parts of the interior. The exterior reflects its 16th-century origins, set within the town of Heubach. The surrounding area offers quiet streets and views of the local landscape.
